The main image printed directly onto the canvas is from a photo I took in Japan 10 years ago. In a sex toy shop, I found an absurd product called “Smell of Schoolgirl’s Menstruation.” It reflects the disturbing obsession with schoolgirls, often high school students aged 16 to 18. The product was a small container filled with red, gooey liquid, and the packaging showed a blushing girl lifting her school uniform skirt to reveal underwear with red stain.
The figure is no longer visible because of the torn canvas, and instead of the girl’s face a man peers through the hole.

The combination of red and white is traditionally used for celebrations in Japan, and a girl’s first menstruation used to be celebrated.
