Gravure Idol series III, 2021, Silkscreen print on paper
25x35cm

The "Gravure Idols" series comprises fifteen prints featuring various color variations and combinations. These works draw inspiration from the pin-up girls commonly found on Japanese magazine covers, particularly those featured in comic and manga publications aimed at teenagers. In Japan, such semi-nude depictions of girls are prevalent and omnipresent, as these magazines are prominently displayed in convenience stores, and their advertisements are pervasive.

These images typically depict semi-nude girls with a consistent makeup style, pose, facial expression, and gaze. These elements collectively represent an idealized image of the desire that many Japanese males hold towards females. In the creation of these prints, the focus has been on isolating the eyes from these pin-up girls, given that the eyes play a significant role in conveying meaning and power, even in subtle details such as the positioning of the iris.
